Yes you CAN grow walnuts in Alberta!  These are slightly smaller nuts than what we are accustomed to but delicious and very nutritious!
Be prepared to wait a while for your snack though!   These are young, 5 ft trees and, though fast-growing (2-3 ft/year), it likely won't start producing nuts until your toddler is celebrating her 7th birthday!   Some years down the road, when your grandkids  come to visit, they will be staring up at a 100' tree and clambering around in branches that span 20' on either side of the trunk.  Safety ropes will be required:)   At that point, you can expect to enjoy your walnut tree for another 175 years!!
In the meantime, they are a beautiful, unique tree with distinct compound leaves and, as mentioned above, a lovely wide canopy.
You will want lots of space for this to grow... so best suited to acreage owners.
